Everything you might want to know.

How much does a Kelowna fishing charter cost?

Our Kelowna fishing charters start from $350 short trip, with a half-day (4 hr) at $600 and a full-day (8 hr) at $1,200. 3 fishing seats — up to 5 people aboard. Rods, reels, tackle and lures are included (artificial-only — no live bait). Lunch and beverages are available by request for an additional per-person fee.

How long are charters?

Most guests book 4, 6 or 8-hour charters. We can also run shorter evening cruises and longer full-day trips on request.

What should I bring?

Bring your BC fishing licence, polarized sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, warm layers (it's cool on the water even in summer), snacks, and a cooler for your catch. Everything else — rods, tackle, lures, life jackets — is onboard.

Do I need a fishing licence?

Yes. Anglers 16 and older need a British Columbia freshwater fishing licence. You can buy a one-day, eight-day, or annual licence online from the Province of BC in a few minutes. We'll send you the direct link when you book.

What fish species do you target?

On Okanagan Lake: rainbow trout (year-round) and kokanee salmon (in season). On Shuswap Lake: chinook salmon, burbot. On Arrow Lake: kokanee salmon.

How many people can come on the charter?

3 fishing seats — up to 5 people aboard (including the captain). The Kingfisher 2525 Weekender has a heated cabin, full head and plenty of deck space, so it's comfortable for families and small groups.

Is the charter kid-friendly?

Yes — the boat has a heated cabin, life jackets in all sizes, and a proper bathroom onboard. It's one of the most family-friendly fishing charter boats on Okanagan Lake.

Where does the charter launch from?

Kelowna-area public boat ramps for Okanagan Lake charters. For Shuswap or Arrow Lake trips, we confirm the meeting ramp when you book based on weather and target species that week.

Do you clean and bag the fish?

Yes. At the end of the day we'll clean and bag your catch (species and BC regulations permitting) so it's ready to go straight into a cooler.

What's the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure. We'll always reschedule at no cost if weather makes the trip unsafe.

When is the best time of year to fish?

Okanagan Lake fishes well year-round. Kokanee peaks late spring through summer; fish strong in all shoulder seasons. For sightseeing, May through October is prime.

Do you do corporate or multi-boat trips?

Yes — for larger groups we can arrange multi-day programs. Get in touch and we'll put together a plan.

What fish can you catch on Okanagan Lake?

Okanagan Lake is best known for trophy rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. Captain Dennis Barnes targets rainbow trout year-round — Okanagan rainbows are a few pounds, with occasional larger fish and the lake holds genuine trophy-class fish. Kokanee come into play in season, typically late spring through summer. We run a downrigger-and-troll program tuned to the season, so you're fishing where the fish actually are on the day you're out.

Is fishing good in Kelowna in winter?

Yes — winter is one of the best times to target trophy rainbow trout on Okanagan Lake. The water clears, bigger fish move shallower, and boat traffic disappears. Our Kingfisher 2525 has a heated cabin, so you can stay warm between bites. We run charters through the colder months and many of our largest rainbows come December through March. Call Captain Dennis at 250-902-8323 to check current winter availability.

Is the boat heated?

Yes — our 26' Kingfisher 2525 has a fully heated, enclosed cabin. That means we can fish comfortably year-round, including cold winter mornings and shoulder-season days when the wind picks up on Okanagan Lake. There's also a proper marine head (bathroom) onboard, so the boat stays comfortable for families and longer trips.

What's included in a Kelowna fishing charter?

Every Kelowna fishing charter includes all rods, reels, downriggers, tackle and lures (artificial only — no live bait), life jackets in all sizes, on-water guiding from Captain Dennis Barnes, and fish cleaning and bagging at the end of the trip. You just bring your BC fishing licence, warm layers, sunglasses, snacks and a cooler for your catch. Lunch and beverages are available by request for a small per-person fee.

Can you fish from shore in Kelowna, or do I need a charter?

You can fish from shore in Kelowna, but a charter dramatically improves your odds. Okanagan Lake is deep — over 750 feet in places — and the big rainbow trout and kokanee hold well offshore at specific depths that change with the season. A guided charter puts you on fish with downriggers, sonar, and Captain Dennis's local knowledge, instead of casting from a public dock and hoping. Shore fishing is fine for a quiet afternoon; a charter is how you actually catch trophy trout.

What's the biggest trout you've caught on Okanagan Lake?

Captain Dennis has landed and released trophy-class rainbow trout on Okanagan Lake, with several guests bringing larger fish to the net on guided charters. Okanagan Lake is a genuine trophy rainbow fishery — trophy-class fish come up across the season when you're targeting them with the right depth and presentation. We practise selective release on the larger breeding fish to keep the fishery strong.

How do I book a Kelowna fishing charter?

The fastest way to book is to call or text Captain Dennis directly at 250-902-8323, or email info@outdooradventuresbc.com. We'll confirm your date, group size (up to 5 people total), pickup details, and target species, then hold the boat with a simple deposit. Weekends and summer dates fill up two to four weeks ahead, so the earlier the better.

Do you offer charters for solo anglers or couples?

Yes — Outdoor Adventures BC runs private charters at the same boat price whether you're solo, a couple, or a group of five. There are 3 fishing seats and the boat takes up to 5 people total. Because every trip is private, you're not sharing the deck with strangers, so solo and couple bookings are very common, especially in shoulder season. Call 250-902-8323 if you want help picking a date.

Do you fish year-round in Kelowna?

Yes. We run Kelowna fishing charters year-round on Okanagan Lake. Rainbow trout are open all 12 months, kokanee are seasonal (typically late spring through summer), and the heated cabin on our Kingfisher 2525 makes winter trips genuinely comfortable. Weather is the only thing that ever cancels a trip, and if conditions aren't safe Captain Dennis will reschedule at no cost.

What kind of boat do you use for Kelowna fishing charters?

We run a 26' Kingfisher 2525 Weekender — a heavy-aluminum, offshore-capable boat built in BC. It has a heated cabin, full marine head (bathroom), downriggers, sonar/GPS, and 3 dedicated fishing seats with room for up to 5 people total. It's one of the most comfortable charter boats on Okanagan Lake and handles winter weather and summer chop equally well.

Free reschedule if the weather turns.

If the lake's unsafe or genuinely miserable, we'll call you 12–24 hours ahead to move your trip. Full refund on weather cancellations. Free cancellation up to 48 hours out.
